I've had several questions how to film a soccer game and then display what I record so that the coaches and team can best use the film. Here are a few thoughts.
recording / Filming the soccer game
My previous blog covers this in more depth. But in general here is the process:
- I use a camera pole manufactured by SVT Advantage (www.svtadvantage.net)
- I make sure the camera I use is HD quality and can zoom in and zoom out

Uploading the games to you-tube
I'll try to make this straight forward. This is pretty easy - but can be a little time consuming. Since my internet is not lightning speed, and I have to pay for data after a certain amount, I try to make my files as small as possible before uploading. If you have a super fast connection, either at home or at work, you might be able to cut out some of these steps:
- I drag and drop the soccer movie files into movie maker. It is freeware. I create a title frame for the film that states who is versing who and the date.
- I then save the movie using the "for computer" setting (tab left of the "home" tab). This will reduce the file size. But the file will usually still be pretty large.
- Once the movie is saved, I open up handbrake. This is another software package that is freeware. Great tool for compressing video without reducing the quality too much.
- In handbrake, you'll need to select the source file (movie you just created in movie maker). Then under "destination" you'll need to create a new file name for this program to save the file in.
- After that, you'll want to go to the tabs, half way down the page. Tabs include "picture," "filters," "video,"... - select the video tab.
- Under video, select the "fast decode" box, and then set the constant quality to 28. Then go up to the top and select "start."
- Once the file is created - you can upload the video to you-tube.
-Once the video is uploaded to you-tube, you can either send out that link to the team, or you can add one more step that really make a huge difference.
- Once I have a couple of videos for a team, I create a free website (weebly, go daddy, etc...) and just add the links into the website. That way the team and coaches can just go to that website and watch whatever game they want to watch from their TVs, mobile phones, tablets, etc...
Hope this helps. Let me know your thoughts.
